The Australasian Professional Legal Education Council (APLEC) was formed in the 1970's and represents all the professional legal training (PLT) courses in Australia and New Zealand.

The Heads of Courses of APLEC meet regularly to discuss matters of common interest and to further the development of professional legal training.

In recent years one of the main projects undertaken by APLEC has been the development of the Competency Standards for Entry Level Lawyers. These Competency Standards provide a blue print for the content and standard of PLT courses in Australia. A copy of the Competency Standards can be downloaded from the Resources page on this site.

APLEC holds an annual conference for PLT staff and all those interested in PLT issues. See the Events page on this site for details.
